At some point today — and every day — you will be uncomfortable.
You don’t know where on the scale of discomfort your this sucks moment(s) will fall.
It could be something minor and close to the low end of the scale. Like you drop a glass on the floor and it shatters or you are stuck in traffic.
That’s a pain in the ass and annoying and unplanned and it takes up time you hadn’t planned on devoting to that particular inconvenience.
It could be something on the high end of the scale. Like your house goes into foreclosure or a family member dies.
These situations are uncomfortable and challenging.
This stuff happens every day.
Today and tomorrow and every day for the rest of your life, you will be presented with many challenges.
You may be faced with motivational, financial, logistical, parental, marital, emotional, or physical challenges.
These are all opportunities.
They are opportunities for you to complain.
But they are also opportunities for something else.
Opportunities for learning and practice and growth.
Every day your kids will give you opportunities to practice patience and to model healthy and effective responses to all types of situations.
Your brain will give you opportunities to practice finding the motivation or the will to get up off your ass and go for a run.
Right now Facebook posts will give you opportunities to practice all sorts of shit.
Today when things don’t go your way, when people are making you question the human existence, when your kids are pushing every last button, when you have a plan and something fucks it up, pause, take a deep breath, and tell yourself,
THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH.
Repeat that twenty times if you have to.
And then go do some growing.
