The kids and I went to the coolest place yesterday.
Everyone loved it.
EVEN THE TEENAGERS.
It’s called the Mine Hill Preserve in Roxbury, CT.
It’s only about 20 minutes away from our house, but for some reason we’ve never been there until yesterday.
It was perfect hiking weather here in CT.
The Mine Hill Preserve was a fully functioning iron mine about 150 years ago, and many of the structures are still there.
It’s like visiting an outdoor museum while you are on a hike.
And the different types of scenery and terrain there are beautiful.
The trails are really well marked.
There are some nice smooth sections of trails.
There are some rockier paths.
There’s water.
Number 4 was in heaven because it was full of frogs.
Number 4 loves frogs.
Number 7 said, “Mom, we should go hiking more often. This is so much fun.”
Number 5 said she wants to move to Roxbury.
(I concur. It’s GORGEOUS).
The Mine Hill area of the preserve is pretty amazing.
The kids LOVED it.
The structures are pretty impressive.
It was like walking back in time.
It was like a really cool field trip where the kids were engaged the whole time.
There were so many different “feels” to this place.
It is really beautiful
I feel kind of dumb for never having gone there before!
I don’t often go places that appeal to ALL the kids.
This place fit the bill.
I’m glade we finally checked it out.
We had a really nice afternoon, and we are all looking forward to going back.
If you are within and hour of Roxbury, CT and you haven’t been here yet, I (and my five kids) highly recommend!
