Last year on Thanksgiving, Number 7 really wanted to do an activity she had done in school with her classmates at home with her family.
It was simple. She wanted everyone to write something they appreciated about someone else on a paper turkey.
Luckily my dad was more than happy to help her trace and cut out eleven turkeys.
They traced and cut and traced and cut.
Then they set the table and gave everyone a turkey.
She gave everyone a pen and assigned us all one person.
And then we had to write something about the person we were assigned.
It was super cute and she had a lot of fun doing it, but it was kind of labor intensive.
Today was a half day of school and as soon as she got home, Number 7 asked me if I could print some Thanksgiving pictures out for her to color.
She found a couple she liked, but what she really wanted was something similar to what she had done last year. And she wanted to make one for every person who was coming over for Thanksgiving.
So I made one for her.
It has everything she wanted — a turkey to color, the words “Happy Thanksgiving” and a space to write something nice about everyone.
This is much less labor intensive than tracing and cutting out eleven construction paper turkeys, and she has been up in her room all afternoon coloring and working on the ten papers she asked me to print out for her.
I won’t force anyone to do these tomorrow, but they will be available for anyone.
They have already proven to be a good way to occupy the kids for a little while, so I thought maybe you’d want one, too!
