My parents gave me the entire Little House On The Prairie DVD set for Christmas a few years ago.
It is one of my favorite gifts to date.
We started watching it as a family then, but the three little guys were really too little to get it, and we only made it the beginning of the 3rd season and then we kind of stopped watching it.
A few months ago we started back up.
Anytime we have a night when we are all home early enough, we sit down together to watch it.
Well, most of us.
Number 3 is totally over it. I guess that can happen when you are a dude and you turn 14.
So I watch it with Number 4, 5, 6, and 7.
If one of us isn’t home, we don’t watch it. It’s that special.
This is probably my favorite part of the day.
I love the ritual of sitting down with the kids.
We enact the one screen rule.
Nobody looks at phones or iPads or anything else.
We are all present in the moment with the Ingalls family.
While I love the ritual, there are so many things I love about the show.
I love it for what it reminds me of and teaches me, and I love it for what it teaches my kids.
The biggest lessons for me always come back to the same things.
Family is everything.
Get outside.
Cook food from scratch.
Be nice to people even when they aren’t kind to you.
Visit your neighbors.
You don’t need snacks.
Move your butt.
Manual labor is rewarding. And important.
Nature provides the best entertainment.
Simple is better.
I thought of this today as I was searching through a tangled mess of cords and chargers.
I hate cords and chargers.
They are necessary at times, but I’d love a couple days without them.
So I’m going to work on that.
Camp Little House On The Prairie will be enacted at some point during the summer.
Doesn’t that sound good?
I’ll let ya know what I come up with.
If you have any suggestions for Camp LHOTP, send ’em my way!

What a coincidence! We just started watching the series too. My 14 yr old son didn’t seem have much of an interest then we noticed all the way of to season 6 on Netflix had been watched. He had been sneaking watching the episodes. Six seasons in 2 months. If I That his being naught, I’m totally fine with that!
So many great lessons from that show. And now in our how when someone is being unkind we all say, don’t be a Nelly!!

Even though you might not have the exact setting as LHOTP, you are already incorporating many of the same family, life and moral aspects of Laura’s life. Keep it up!! Love reading your posts!

One of my favorite shows. And, here in St. Louis, it is on TV at 4pm and 5pm and 6pm every week night. So, if I have a free hour (not often) during the week (ha!) at any of those times (haha!) I watch…..sometimes with kids, sometimes while making dinner and enjoy…..

I started watching this again during “Covid-19” lockdown- i love it! Such a simpler time- people took care of each other, worked hard, & enjoyed the great outdoors. ❤️
