We are almost 2 weeks into Number 4’s cast.
The biggest problem?
The unreachable itch.
The doctor told us to use popsicle sticks.
But those things aren’t very long.
We tried pencils, but I was afraid Number 4 would give herself a puncture wound.
Plus, both the popsicle sticks and the pencils can get pretty far down in there and can be really hard to get back out (when my dad was little he broke his leg, and when they cut the cast off, about 12 pencils fell to the ground).
We discovered something that works pretty well.
It’s not sharp, so there’s no worrying about breaking the skin.
It’s small enough that it will fit inside the cast, but not so flimsy that it can break off in there.
It’s long enough that it can reach those far down itches.
It’s…
a wooden spoon!
The spoon part is easy to hold onto, so that sucker will not get shoved into the depths of the cast only to be seen again when the cast is finally removed.
If you have a kid in a cast who is tortured by itches,
try it out.
It has been a serious lifesaver for us…
Relief!
And a smile 🙂

Try canned air also. It works wonderfully for sweaty itches!
