I am so far behind where I wanted to be today !!!
UGH!
And I started to go into PTFOM a little.
So I decided to take a moment to breathe, and I thought I’d offer you this little reminder.
It’s okay if your house isn’t perfect on Thanksgiving.
In fact, it’s even okay if your house is a total sh*t hole on Thanksgiving.
IT’S OKAY.
My brother lives in Georgia, and we rarely get to see him.
And in a couple hours, he will be here at my house.
With his girlfriend who none of us have never met and her two kids.
And my house is a mess. I’m nowhere near prepared for Thanksgiving.
It’s not the first impression I wanted to make.
But you know what?
It’s an accurate one.
Sure, we will do what we can to get the place looking nice.
But I’m not going to lose my mind over it.
I’m not going to spend part of my day tomorrow freaking out on the kids because the house isn’t perfect.
It’s not worth it.
What matters is that we are having the first Thanksgiving in our house in four years where we aren’t afraid it could be the last one because we are on the verge of losing our home.
We are all healthy and we are spending the day with the people we love the most.
They don’t care if the house isn’t perfect.
And if they do?
Well…
screw ’em.
There are way bigger things to freak out over.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving.
We all have something to be thankful for. Most of us have many things to be thankful for.
And we can all be thankful that we are allowing ourselves to relax and enjoy this holiday now that we have pulled our heads out of our butts and are remembering exactly what we are celebrating today.
Because it’s not to show off our perfect houses.
So if your heart rate is in the triple digits right now, stop.
Take a few deep breaths.
Give your kids or your spouse a hug.
Sit down for a couple minutes and close your eyes.
CHILL.
It’s not Perfect House Day tomorrow. (Thank God).
It’s Thanksgiving.
You don’t need to impress anyone. You don’t need to outdo anyone.
It’s okay if the house isn’t perfect.
It’s okay if the turkey is dry (that’s what gravy is for ).
It’s okay if you didn’t get to make whatever-that-dish-is-that-you-ALWAYS-make-from-scratch.
You can buy a pumpkin pie from Costco (besides, their pies kick some serious ass).
Slow down. Focus on what matters. Enjoy the day.
And have a Happy Thanksgiving !
