Journey must be really proud of me.

June 20, 2013 by not your average mom 2 Comments

If you read yesterday’s post, you know I started off my morning consumed by mom guilt.

But I kept telling myself,

something is going to work out.

A new friend offered to watch my kids so I wouldn’t miss Number 3’s end-of-the-year party, but unfortunately, the one time she couldn’t help out was during the party.

Usually my dad would babysit, but he had a doctor’s appointment and couldn’t stay that late.

I asked Cool College Babysitter, but she couldn’t do it either.

So, at 9:30 a.m., I finally accepted reality.

And just as I was about to tell my dad that I was going to miss the party, his phone rang.

“Oh,” he said.

“I forgot. Thanks for reminding me.”

He hung up the phone.

“That was your mom,” he told me.

“My appointment was moved back to 3:00.

So I can stay later today.

Now, what were you about to say?” he asked.

“Um…

That  you are still the best. dad. ever.”

I put it out there.

I believed it.

And it happened.

Yesterday Number 4 said she had the best day ever.

Well, mine turned out to be pretty good too.

Number 5 and I surprised Number 4 at school and ate lunch with her.

And after that I surprised the crap out of Number 3 when I showed up at his party.

Yeah,

I squeezed in my run first.

And I was sweaty and smelly when I saw both the kids.

But they didn’t care what I smelled like when I was there.

Because I was there.

And I’m glad I chose to run over showering.

Because if I hadn’t gone for the run,

then I wouldn’t have seen this:

which was sitting in the end of someone’s driveway with a big, old FREE sign on it.

Yeah.

Don’t stop believing, People.

You’d be surprised by what happens when you don’t.
