A couple weeks ago I received an email (I was asked to omit the details), but basically, I was invited to a lunch at Fred’s at Barney’s of New York on Madison Avenue in NYC, because I write a blog and was a New Yorker.
Huh?
I was a little confused, because I’m not a New Yorker.
Perhaps they had the wrong person.
So I replied, and I asked for some more details.
No, they had not contacted the wrong person. I lived close enough to New York to qualify, I guess.
So I said what the hell. It was a free lunch in the city away from the kids. And I RSVP’d yes.
And then I totally forgot about it. Until today, when I got a confirmation email.
Shit.
I have RSVP’d to attend a lunch the day after tomorrow with a woman who has written several books, none of which I have read, and who is starring in her own TV show which will air on Bravo this summer.
And I’m not quite sure what to do.
I am not a Barney’s kind of chick, I don’t think.
I don’t even know what Barney’s really is, actually. I mean, how fancy it is. But I know famous people buy shit there. And I don’t really buy shit anywhere, but definitely not at Barney’s.
And to me, a restaurant inside of a shwanky store, is, well… that’s like super fancy.
So this was not going to be my post today, but I’m a little conflicted.
I have no idea how many women will be there or what exactly this will be like.
It could be awful and uncomfortable and awkward and terrible and I could be the oldest person in the room with not a penny to her name and I could make a fool out of myself and not have any fun at all.
This is waaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone.
But you all know how I feel about that.
And the show is called Odd Mom Out…
Huh.
I guess I better go figure out what I’m gonna wear to lunch on Wednesday.
Thank you for making me Number 1!

I have only now just found your Blog and I appreciate very much how transparent you are. I should also say, Congratulations! The invitation is a very big compliment to your accomplishments. I am a mom of three and have been in a marriage for 15 years, so I can relate to many of your confessions. Thank you for keeping it real.

So, it sounds completely overwhelming and exciting at the same time. The good news is, no one will remember what you wore. My advice is to be YOU and enjoy lunching with ladies. Best advice I can give is to let someone else choose the salad fork first, then follow their lead.
