Two and a half years ago I started writing this blog.
I started it for three main reasons.
I wanted to make people laugh and let moms know it’s okay to struggle with motherhood.
And then there was the third goal.
Way back in the beginning in those early months of the blog, I would write a post and put it on my Facebook page. I would email the link to family and friends.
They were the only people who ever saw it.
One day I was working out at the Y and I saw a friend.
“I read your new blog,” she told me. “It’s funny,” she continued.
I thanked her, telling her that was my objective.
And then I added,
“Eventually I’m going to support my family with it.”
She gave me an obligatory smile.
But she didn’t believe me for a second.
So that’s always been the third goal.
An impossibility, I’ve been told.
I have worked my ass off on this blog.
Every day for over two and a half years.
Every single day I have written a post.
Okay, except for two days.
I didn’t post the day I ran the NYC marathon, and I didn’t post yesterday because of the vendor fair (which I’m going to write a post about later tonight).
Anyway, I have 100% committed to this blog.
And that’s what this post is about.
Writing every day may seem over the top to some people, but because of it, I have built up a decent following.
And there is this thing called Google Analytics.
Google Analytics gives you the statistics for how many people visit your site each day and how many page views you have each day/week/month and a whole bunch of other information.
I currently have over 26,000 readers per month.
I have over 130,000 page views a month.
I did that all by myself!
And it has taken over two years, but I am now making money from advertising.
Advertisers check out your Google Analytics stats.
And mine are now respectable enough that real advertisers are paying me to rent space on the blog.
Paying me!
Now I’m not making near enough money to support my family, but I’m on my way.
The more readers I have each month, and the more page views I get, the more I will make from ad space rental.
Those of you who have been around for a while know that I need the money.
Badly.
Which brings me to my next point.
I am also being approached to write sponsored posts about products.
That means people will pay me to write posts about their stuff.
And so I’m going to start doing that.
I know many of you did not start following this blog to be bombarded by product reviews.
And that’s not what it’s going to turn into.
I will still be writing my regular daily posts.
But now I will sometimes be publishing more than one post a day.
If there is a product I agree to review, I will also write about that.
Here’s what I promise to you.
I will only check out stuff that I think the readers of this blog might enjoy or find useful or benefit from in some way.
And you know me.
I’m going to be honest.
If I try something out and it totally sucks, I will tell you.
This has never been a sugar c0ating kind of blog.
So yeah.
I just wanted to give you all a heads up.
And I also wanted to thank you.
Because without you guys reading, no advertisers would give me the time of day.
And to those of you who are struggling,
to those of you who are working and not seeing any immediate payoff from whatever it is that you are doing,
don’t give up.
I know sometimes it totally sucks. Whatever it is that you are working toward, it’s draining and exhausting and sometimes downright depressing.
Keep at it.
It will happen.
I know, because it is finally happening for me.
Thank you for making me Number 1!

I am so incredibly happy for where you have taken this business venture of yours over the last 18-months. It has been amazing to watch you do it and despite every hurdle thrown in your way, you’ve stuck with it. It’s admirable. You’re the definition of “staying the course”; of chasing your dream; of not losing sight of what makes you happy. It’s a lot easier to give up than to dig a new path when the first is blocked. I’m sincerely happy for you – and not to sound contrite, but proud, too.

Thank you. This was what I needed to read today. It’s not impossible to make a living and support a family doing what you love to do…

Hey Susie…
I first found you while looking for a mom that might read my children’s book and would post the webpage.
Gawd … you made me laugh from the get go !
I think you …if you had time…could make a big time living doing standup!
I will be happy to pay you to read my children’s book.
I respect your opinion and have no doubt you will love it *S*

My best friend just sent me this and said to read it and then read it again. She said don’t give up. I can’t tell you how many times I have called her since I started my blog back in August saying f this, I am shutting it down. Every time she says no, stick with it. I remind myself of my goals and plug away. It’s hard because sometimes even with what Google Analytics says, I don’t feel like that. My goal is to make enough money blogging and buy my husband a truck. He works so hard so I can stay home. Getting comments hearing how I’m helping mom’s not only makes me tear up but makes me feel so strong. I am so happy to hear how well you’re doing. I love reading your blog. Congratulations
