Last week I went to Number 3’s class party on the last day of school.
As I was walking down the hallway, there were students walking through the halls stopping into other teachers’ rooms.
To get their yearbooks signed.
Number 3 and 4’s school has students in second, third and fourth grades.
Seven to ten-year-olds.
And they are signing yearbooks.
Really?
Yearbooks?
In second grade?
What the hell?
What is there to wait for anymore?
We have graduation ceremonies. With caps and gowns.
In kindergarten.
Sweet sixteen parties used to be a really big deal.
Now we throw over-the-top birthday parties for one-year-olds.
Girls are having their hair professionally done and going to eighth grade dances in dresses that cost more than my wedding dress.
So, no.
I did not buy my seven or eight-year-old kid a yearbook.
Not this year.
And I won’t next year.
Or the year after.
Or even the year after that.
Getting a yearbook used to be a cool thing to look forward to when you were old enough to really appreciate it.
And for my kids, it still will be.
Number 1! Please keep me there!

I always dread Year books. Never like them while I been in school. I hope your kids enjoy them.
