The more the merrier.

I see my therapist every Wednesday.

The office I go to is one of those places that has about 10 or 15 different social workers and psychologists and psychiatrists there.

There are three different windows to check in when you get there.

Today the place was packed.

I had to wait in line for over 5 minutes.

All three lines to all three windows were long.

I remember the first time I went to see a psychiatrist.

It was about 20 years ago.

If I could have, I would have camouflaged myself in a bush walking up to the door of the office.

I would have rather died than have anyone find out I was going in there.

Now I don’t care.

I don’t hide.

I’m not embarrassed.

I smile and make eye contact with everyone I see.

Today, while I was waiting in line, the woman in front of me remarked on how crowded the lobby was.

“Wow.

It’s really busy in here,” she said to the receptionist.

The receptionist didn’t really pay attention. She was a little overwhelmed.

“That’s really…sad,” the woman said.

I didn’t say anything.

Although I wanted to.

Because I don’t think it’s sad at all.

I think it’s great.

I think the fact that so many people are seeking help for something that used to be so shameful and embarrassing is pretty awesome.

What I think is sad is that people still think there is something wrong with asking for help.

With taking care of your brain.

Taking care of your mental health is not something to be sad about.

Acknowledging that you need help is not something to be sad about.

It’s something to be proud of.

So maybe I had to wait for a while in line.

I don’t care.

I’m glad to see so many people taking care of themselves.

And if I happen to see you in the lobby next Wednesday, I’ll be sure to let you know.
