Which led to Thursdays with the Ladies.
And then Thursdays with the Ladies led to…
Wednesdays with the Girls.
Every Wednesday afternoon, for the past four weeks, two seventh grade girls (one is the daughter of one of the Thursday Ladies) come to my house after school.
The first Wednesday was a little chaotic (due to poor planning on my part) .
The second Wednesday, the Girls had a pretty good understanding of what the kids liked to do.
The third Wednesday when I opened the door, there stood the Girls.
“We brought crafts!” they told me.
I was in shock.
They took off their shoes and went into the playroom.
It was kind of a mess in there.
They went in and started cleaning up the table so they had room to work.
It was impressive.
The kids had a great time.
The only bad part of the afternoon was when the Girls had to leave.
Yesterday, the fourth Wednesday, the Girls came equipped with multiple activities and supplies.
One of the Girls opened up her bag.
She pulled out paper bags.
And socks.
And rubber bands.
And paper towels.
She was like a regular old, eighth grade Mary Poppins.
She showed the girls how to make puppets out of paper bags.
Then she showed them how to make a puppet with socks.
When Number 7 wanted to play with play dough, they divided and conquered.
Everyone was occupied.
And everyone was happy. (Especially me)
Again, the kids had a great time, and I got a lot of stuff done.
If you are strapped for cash, consider asking a couple of middle schoolers to help you out.
The Girls like coming over.
They now know the routine, they know the kids, and they know how things work.
My kids LOVE when the Girls come over.
Almost as much as I do…my net is expanding.
My kids are happy.
I’ve got two babysitters in training.
It’s a win-win all around!

Love this! Would it be shameful to linger around the middle school to scout out awesome 8th graders?!?
