I think we often get to the end of a year and we focus on all the changes we want to make and the areas where we think we fell short, and we forget about all the good shit that happened along the way.
Was 2019 my best year ever?
I wouldn’t say so in some ways.
I’m not where I want to be financially or in some areas personally and I’m heavier than I want to be and I’m still perpetually late to just about everything.
But in other ways, I’d say WAY TO GO, SUSIE!!!
Turning 50 has its advantages.
I am more calm, I am able to let go and surrender way more than ever before, I am more focused on the things I can control (my thoughts and actions) rather than on the things I can’t control (other people’s thoughts and actions).
I have perspective and I am beginning to find some balance and I feel really really good about all the work I have done on myself.
There has been lots of growth on my part.
And there were a lot of good memories along the way!
I drove solo from CT to Florida with the kids
for a swim meet for Number 3 and 4.
And we turned that into an epic road trip where one of the stops was meeting my online BFF who I’d never met in real life before.
I directed the 4th grade play when no one stepped up to do it,
and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
Number 5, 6, and 7 participated in the Race For Chase triathlon camp and triathlon race which was another life-changing experience for all of us.
We took a much needed vacation to North Carolina which was probably the best vacation I have ever been on with the kids.
I turned 50.
And I got 3rd place in a skillet throwing contest.
I was on the Mel Robbins Show.
I saw Marie Forleo live in NYC.
I spent another awesome day in the city with Number 4 for her birthday.
I ran a Turkey Trot with my girls.
I got to spend a weekend in a hotel ALONE and watch Number 3 and 4 swim at a meet at MIT in Boston.
And I had a nice, relaxed Christmas with the kids
and my parents.
I arrived at a place where I feel comfortable and confident in my stretched out, 50 year-old skin.
And can say with confidence and certainty that I am ready for whatever 2020 brings my way.
