Just reminiscing this morning…This post is a shout-out to all my former country club employee friends. Memorial Day weekends always bring me back to the opening weekend of the pool.
My first “real” summer job was working as a lifeguard at a country club when I was 16. I worked there for 5 years, and started my coaching career there also. The good old WFC. That was back before “high dives” were considered to be dangerous. I haven’t been there in years, but I’m sure that diving board is gone. And then there was Sharks and Minnows in the diving well, Ralph sinking a canoe in the lake, Kathy making me do about 3000 stride jumps until I got it right during a recertification class, playing spades on rainy days… I miss that place.
When I lived in PA I was the swim coach and pool director at LVCC. That was a great time…Lots of cool members, and I loved my lifeguard and coaching crew. I wonder what Zen is up to these days, and I wonder if anyone there still goes to the “lounge” or plays snuggerball in the office. I wish I knew what ever became of little George and Joey… I saw a picture posted on FB of a member’s daughter who was 2 or 3 the last year I worked there, and she was going to her senior prom. That made me throw up in my mouth a little bit…
I bet it will be beautiful at WeeBurn today. One of my lifeguards there is now a mom with 2 kids. Ouch.
I love this time of year. Lots of good memories. I miss all you guys, and I’m thinking of all of you all today.
Have a really awesome Memorial Day weekend everyone 🙂
