I really love gardening and I especially enjoy the satisfaction of growing my own food, but two years ago we had a serious woodchuck issue, and last year I just didn’t have it in me to try to fight them because it would have been a Bill-Murray-and-the-gopher-in-Caddyshack kind of ordeal, so I never planted a single thing.
But I secretly have a dream of being a serious homesteader and becoming as self-sufficient as possible.
And then this morning I watched the episode of Fixer Upper where Chip and Joanna Gaines make basically the world’s most amazing garden on their farm and while I’m not going to come close to that anytime in the next twelve months, I was inspired, and the gardening fire was reignited.
Screw the damn woodchucks.
But all our garden beds have been completely neglected for two years, so we have some work to do.
A LOT of work to do.
You can’ t really even tell they are garden beds anymore.
Today was beautiful out, so I got to work. And as soon as I announced my plans, Number 5 and Number 7 asked it they could help.
I was super happy to have some assistance.
Because many hands make light work. And manual labor is good for everyone. Especially kids.
But also cause I did the same thing with my dad when I was little.
And it just brought back some good memories of my childhood.
So anyway, that’s all.
I had a good day digging in the dirt with my girls today.
And I also wanted to show you my before pictures, cause the after ones are gonna be good. Not Joanna Gaines good, but still good.
Aaaaaand no, nobody dug up anymore guns today, in case you were wondering. 😉
